For nearly three decades, Medi-Cal Regulation Specialists has been advocating for seniors and have grown increasingly frustrated by the difficult reality that many senior couples face when one of them requires advanced level of care. Until recently, the only option for financial assistance through Medi-Cal required that the ill-spouse leave their home and be admitted into a Custodial Long-Term Care (LTC) Facility, thereby forcing couples to be separated in order to receive and afford the higher level of care.
We are excited to share that Medi-Cal has introduced a groundbreaking program as part of the Affordable Care Act—one that allows ill-spouses to receive higher-levels of care at home without the need for LTC institutionalization. This is a major step forward in preserving the dignity and unity of our senior couples.
